  • Paris Elopement: Natasha & Otto from Hong Kong

Natasha and Otto eloped to Paris yesterday. We decided at the last minute to do the photo session before the ceremony at the Chapel expiatoire to try to get the morning light and quiet streets. We got little drizzle, well it rained! By the time we finished, it was pouring down and today sunday it has been raining all day. We’ve been lucky in a way. There is a saying in French that says “Mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux” translating to ” rainy wedding, happy life together. ” It didn’t stop our sweet couple from Hong Kong from happily celebrating their union with a few friends at the Chapel Expiatoire. Here are a few photos of the wedding, that Olivier our Paris wedding photographer took for us yesterday. Thanks to Estelle for the lovely bouquet, Dominique our driver for running around with umbrellas as well as Fred and Muriel, our make up artist and hairdresser to the stars in Paris.

You can view more photos of our couple’s wedding in Paris on Olivier’s blog @ WeddingLight.

  • Paris Elopement: Irena & Nikola from Serbia

We planned an elopement for Irena and Nikola in Paris a few days ago. Olivier from WeddingLight posted some of the photos on the blog already so here is a little snippet of the wedding day.

They flew in from Serbia to get married at the Serbian embassy in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Olivier followed them around afterwards to document their special day with Eric, their driver and his classic automobile.

We have just received a few words from our couple and couldn’t wait to share some of the images with all of you:

From our couple: “Thank you both for putting so much effort and helping us in having a great wedding day in Paris.
We appreciate all your support and planning for our wedding in Paris. We were not an easy couple, we know, and appreciate all your flexibility and patience in arranging everything according to our wishes. And Olivier, we looked at all the photos and they are really great! Although we were in a rush and delayed from the beginning, you’ve managed to put together quite some nice photos. The places we visited are really nice and we liked them a lot. Once again, thank you both for all your efforts and we might see each other on some other occasions in the future!

  • Paris Wedding: Jacquelyn & Livingston’s Elegant Georges V Wedding Celebration

An escape to Paris from the Big Apple for Jacquelyn & Livingston’s wedding was like a fairy tale. I still cannot believe how beautiful and romantic the entire celebration turned out… When they arrived in Paris it was freezing cold, which was expected really. Despite the weather though, it did not stop the wedding party and guests from making an appearance in front of the Eiffel Tower for a seemingly impromptu flash mob dance, (if 15 people dancing to music supplied by our DJ’s speaker can be called a mob). After making it through the initial stage fright, they had a blast and the memory of it all was captured forever by our wonderful photographer, Olivier of WeddingLight Photography who turned videographer for our enjoyment of the memory for many years to come.

The next day was the wedding ceremony. Officiant, Minister Rudolph Nickens, is a long time friend of the family. He knew all the right words to make the ceremony meaningful, as they began their new lives together. Every detail from the flowers — especially the flowers were perfect. The wedding theme colors were coral, peach and ivory.

Jeff Leatham created a design of mixed roses and hydrangeas displayed on mirror stands with candles, and using glass candelabras for a more elegant feel. Everything down to the candles — to the three, yes three — cakes were perfect. To explain the cakes: Jacquelyn and her mother are something of cake-a-holics and so they each had their own, and of course the groom could not be left out either.

The bride’s cake was prepared by our pastry Chef Lucien Gautier and was a 4-tiered cake with different whimsical flavors, inspired by yellow cake, red velvet cake and carrot cake, topped by a chocolate cake and covered with white vanilla and buttercream icing. Livingston’s (the groom) cake was made of chocolate and peanut butter and the bride’s mother also wanted a cake for herself; this was a traditional French Croquembouche made of small chocolate and vanilla cream puffs.

Oh, Jacquelyn had fallen in LOVE with Romona Keveza wedding dresses, so not only did she buy one but TWO. She could change to a more manageable wedding gown for the reception party. Following the diner we all went to the V.I.P Club and danced until the early hours of the morning. Two days after the wedding they donned their wedding attire once again and went on a tour of the city with our lively photographer, Olivier.

” The pictures will be the best I will ever have taken — thanks to our make up stylist of the Stars, Angélik Iffennecker and because of Olivier’s exceptional talent.”

“All in all, our time in Paris was the best time of my life!  Thank you, mother and father for putting it all into place and making it to this point with me. Can’t wait for my vow renewal !!! I hope every single person is available in five years (or is 2 years too soon?)! Paris is the most romantic city in the world. I wanted to have an excuse to come every year for our anniversary. “

Paris Wedding photographer – From Olivier Lalin of WeddingLight the Photographer: I first met Jacquelyn and Livingston on the Pont de Iena, where we filmed their “impromptu” flash mob dance. It was cold on that day, Marco, my videographer and I got so exited about the whole thing, we forgot we were freezing. It simply rocked and we had a great time capturing Jacquelyn and Livingston’s special mini flash mob event. From that moment on, I knew the wedding itself was going to be above and beyond a whole lot of fun. It was great seeing this young group of people so excited to be in the “City of Lights,” especially since for most of them it was their the first time! The flash mob dance was the first highlight of the week end, but more was on its way..

Our second meeting on the roof of the Georges V Hotel, where we did a short portrait session. It is very rare that a hotel will let a photographer roam freely, but when you actually do get permission, I can certainly say it is bliss! The view was magnificent and Jacquelyn and Livingston looked just perfect. I loved the whole wedding and especially going to the V.I.P Club for the after party, which was the third highlight of the weekend. We mingled with the crowd and just had a great time celebrating. The French love their brides and Jacquelyn was getting the “VIP” treatment, which I am sure made the evening even more memorable.

Then, a couple of days later, we met again for a three-hour photo shoot through Paris. We hopped in our car and were off to have some fun shooting through some of the city’s most iconic spots like the Eiffel Tower, along the Seine and its gorgeous bridges and many more wonderful places. Then I took them to the Tuilerie garden, down rue de Rivoli, rue de la Paix, Place Vendome, the Opera area, and of course, the Louvre. From those three hours, I took over 400 photos of the gorgeous couple. It is such a wonderful feeling seeing love and a couple who is so happy and and ready to spend the rest of their lives together. All in all, I have to say that this was a gorgeous wedding and fun-filled weekend and I feel so lucky to have been able to be a part of it!

  • WLE Meets: Professional Makeup Artist, Fred

Every bride wants to look their absolute best on their wedding day and rightly so! It’s one of the most memorable and special times in a bride’s life. (Not to mention the amount of photos that will be taken that day — no pressure!) So having a professional makeup artist create your favorite look and make sure it lasts throughout the day can make all the difference. We caught up with Fred, one of our favorite makeup artists, to hear what he says about bridal makeup and what it is like being a professional makeup artist.

Q:When did you know you wanted to be a makeup artist? How did it become your passion?

A: Actually, it began with my passion for perfume.  When I was around 18 or 20 and was doing some promotion for perfume companies.  There were makeup artists that came to do promotions as well and I loved watching them. Eventually, I began doing makeup there, too. After that, I had many internships to keep perfecting my craft.

Q: What is your favorite part about doing a brides’ makeup?

A: I like taking care of her (the bride) — really looking after her wellness and satisfaction. Brides are usually very stressed on the day they are getting married. So I like making them feel beautiful and when they feels happy with what I did, than that is pure fulfillment.

Q: How do you make a bride feel special on her wedding day?

A: Brides are very sensitive to the mood of the atmosphere. Most of the time they didn’t sleep well the night before because of  nerves. So when she is with me, I like to make her feel relaxed and allow her to de-stress.  Murielle (WLE Hair Stylist – blog post to come!) and I usually work together, so we know how each other operates and that makes things easier and is more helpful for the bride.

Q: Are there any lasting or classic styles that will always be popular with brides?

A: Brides usually tell me that they want “something soft.”  This means they are wanting a classic look: nude lips with a sheer gloss, light eyes, and sometimes adding false lashes. They don’t want to change their daily makeup style to look different from how they normally do. Brides just want something simple, but with a little more sophistication than their everyday look.

Q: Do you have any memorable moments or great stories on the job?

A: Jewish weddings are probably the most memorable for me. We get to see them four times throughout the day: at the town hall, for the oriental service, at the synagogue and then for their evening party. You really get to know them when you see them so many times! Most of the time they invite me to stay for their party and I’ll have a cocktail with them.

Q: Do you have any helpful tips or advice for our fabulous brides?

A: Have a good night’s sleep. Make sure to moisturize, do a mask, a body scrub… everything. Nice makeup is made for nice skin. It is also very important to have nice eyebrows.  The shape and style are essential for the overall look of the bride’s makeup. So it’s best to leave it to a professional — they always do them better. And maybe get a facial a week or up to four days before the wedding.

Q: Ok, last question! Do you have any favorite products?

A: I have many favorites.  But, I really like products that get rid of dark circles under the eyes. YSL’s Touche Eclat Radiant Touch is great for that. Carmex is also really great for soft lips.
